Welcome to the kick-off for the Honeycomb Stitch-Along! I'm really excited to be hosting my first stitch/ sew-along and I hope to make it a great time for everyone with lots of skill building along the way. This throw pillow project will focus on sampling a number of hand-stitching techniques (like English Paper Piecing, Hand Applique, Hand Quilting, and Embroidery) to give a great overview of what a simple needle and thread can add to any sewist's repertoire. I've put together a tentative schedule of posts and tutorials to give you an idea of how this hand-stitching sampler project will work. Here's the schedule (with room to adjust if we need):
- Friday, February 8th - Kick-off with Schedule, Sponsors, and Pellon Giveaway!
- Saturday, February 9th - Materials Lists Posted
- Friday, February 22nd - Cutting Instructions
- Tuesday, February 26th - English Paper Piecing Tutorial
- Tuesday, March 5th - Needle Turn Applique Tutorial
- Tuesday, March 12th - Embroidery Tutorial
- Tuesday, March 19th - Piecing the Pillow Top, Backing, and Basting
- Tuesday, March 26th - Hand Quilting Tutorial
- Tuesday, April 2nd - Finishing the Pillow and Binding
- Tuesday, April 16th - Final Link-Up with Prizes!
The final link-up in April will be a great time to celebrate those finishes and our new-found stitchy skills! I've been working with a great group of sponsors to put together some fun giveaway prizes for our finale. I'd like to say a special thanks to each of these fantastic sponsors for making this event that much more fun! I'll be posting more on the prizes very soon.
And please feel free to support our sponsors and say thanks by purchasing your project supplies through them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, I'm happy to announce that I have a bundle of each of the Pellon products used in the Honeycomb Pillow to giveaway to one lucky stitch-alonger (that's a word, right?)! ; ) This bundle--which was generously donated by our sponsor, Pellon--includes several of the things you'll be needing to make your own project. You could win:
- 2 yards of Shape Flex SF101 woven interfacing
- 1 package of Nature's Touch batting, crib-sized
- 1 20" Pellon pillow form
In order to win all of these, leave me a comment letting me know what you are most looking forward to this spring. That's it!
Gold stars if you're planning to stitch-along, but it's not a requirement to win. ; )
Due to shipping constraints, this giveaway is open to those living in the U.S. and Canada. Sorry international friends! All other stitch-along giveaways will be open to everyone.
The giveaway closes Wednesday, February 13th at 10:00 PM PST. I will announce the winner on V-day. : ) Please make sure there is a way to contact you in your comment or profile. No purchase is necessary to win and odds of winning depend on the number of entries.
Good luck and stay tuned for more stitch-along info -plus- the materials list, coming tomorrow!
